I liked that, despite his energy, Grohl has recently focused on melody. Here, he's gotten loud and noisy, harking back to his grunge roots. However, the album is varied and doesn't bog you down in a swamp of noise. There are some interesting moments, but the material still lacks balance, making it feel like a strange collection.
