Hawkwind

British rock band formed in 1969 (initially as Hawkwind Zoo) in London, England, performing psychedelic rock with elements of prog, heavy metal, and experimental electronics and mentioned (alongside Pink Floyd) as one of the pioneers of the space rock genre. A significant role in shaping the collective's style was played by writer Michael Moorcock, with whom the band actively collaborated in the 1970s-1980s, and Robert Calvert, its frontman from 1972-1978. Hawkwind (largely thanks to an anarchist, unorthodox approach to the creative process) went down in history as the only one of the progressive/psychedelic rock bands that contributed to the formation of the punk movement. Vocalist, songwriter, and guitarist Dave Brock remained the only permanent member of the collective, through which more than 50 musicians passed due to the constantly changing line-up throughout its history.
