Rainbow
A British-American rock band formed in 1975 by guitarist Ritchie Blackmore and musicians from the band Elf led by vocalist Ronnie James Dio. Subsequently, Ritchie Blackmore, as the group's leader, repeatedly changed its members. By 1983, eight records had been released, each with a different lineup. While Rainbow's style also evolved, many continued to perceive it as either an alternative to or a replacement for Deep Purple, especially after the latter broke up in 1976 and bassist Roger Glover joined Rainbow two years later. In April 1984, Rainbow ceased to exist due to Blackmore and Glover leaving to join the reformed Deep Purple. At the end of 1993, Blackmore, having left Deep Purple, revived Rainbow with new musicians, but after releasing one album and failing to repeat previous successes, the group suspended its activities at the end of 1997 until 2015. The group has sold over 28 million copies of their albums worldwide, 4 million of which were in the US. Rainbow's most famous compositions are "Stargazer," "Long Live Rock’n’Roll," "Man on the Silver Mountain," "Catch the Rainbow," "I Surrender," "All Night Long," "Temple of The King," "Since You Been Gone," "Spotlight Kid," "Can’t Happen Here," "Can’t Let You Go," and "Street of Dreams."
