Richard William Wright (July 28, 1943, Hatch End, Middlesex – September 15, 2008, London) was a British pianist, keyboardist, songwriter, and singer, best known for his participation in the band Pink Floyd. Wright’s elegant keyboard parts were an essential component and a distinctive feature of the vast majority of Pink Floyd’s albums. Wright also often acted as a backing vocalist, and on some compositions, he was the lead vocalist. Not as prolific an author as Roger Waters or David Gilmour, he still wrote much of what is now considered Pink Floyd classics. Rick Wright passed away on September 15, 2008, from cancer, without having managed to finish work on his solo album.
