Buddy Guy began his professional career at the end of the 50s under the guidance of Muddy Waters on Chess records. Since then he has released a couple of dozen albums, opened a famous blues-club, received five Grammy awards, and simply became a legend of this style. The last at the given moment award Buddy took precisely for Born to... This disc is the entire essence of blues in 14 tracks. Guy here is already 79, but this does not reflect either on his musical abilities or on his appearance. He is still comprehensively young. The disc is framed by two things in the style of blues standards (Born to play guitar and Come back Muddy), which I consider the best on the album. And between them, there will be found a place for boogie (Wear you out with Billy Gibbons), and riffs (Whiskey, beer & wine), and groove (Turn me wild), and grit (Smarter than I was), and modern trendy sound (Crazy world), and even Gary Moore (Crying out of one eye), and one more time a classic (Back up mama and Thick like Mississippi mud). The magnificently mixed album contains within itself material so diverse that every lover of good music gets the possibility to choose exactly what is to his liking. You will not hear any devilish shredding here, in every solo there is precisely as much soul as the blues spirit requires. Although Buddy does not produce any revolutions in terms of music, boredom is not felt here by even a gram. This is one of the best purely blues records in recent years.
